Instant Ramen with Soft Egg (Print Version)

A speedy bowl featuring tender egg, butter, and scallions to enrich instant noodles.

# What You'll Need:

→ Instant Noodles

01 - 1 package instant ramen noodles (any flavor)

→ Broth & Flavor

02 - 2 cups water
03 - 1 seasoning packet (from ramen package)
04 - 1 tablespoon unsalted butter

→ Add-Ins

05 - 1 large egg
06 - 1 scallion, thinly sliced

→ Optional

07 - Chili flakes or chili oil, to taste
08 - Soy sauce, to taste

# How to Make It:

01 - Bring 2 cups of water to a boil in a small saucepan.
02 - Add instant noodles and cook according to package instructions, approximately 2 to 3 minutes.
03 - Reduce heat to low when noodles are nearly cooked. Crack the egg gently into the simmering broth without stirring. Cover and cook for 1 to 2 minutes until the egg white is set but yolk remains soft.
04 - Stir in the seasoning packet and 1 tablespoon unsalted butter until fully melted.
05 - Transfer noodles and broth into a bowl. Garnish with sliced scallions, and add chili flakes or soy sauce as desired. Serve immediately.

# Additional Tips::

01 -
  • It transforms a dollar box of noodles into something that tastes restaurant-quality and feels like actual comfort food.
  • The creamy butter and soft egg yolk become a natural sauce that coats every strand of noodle without any extra effort.
  • Ten minutes from cold stove to steaming bowl means you can make this on the nights when cooking feels impossible.
02 -
  • The egg white will look a little translucent right when you think it's done, and that's okay—it keeps cooking gently in the residual heat of the broth, and you'll avoid rubber-textured egg whites if you stop just before it looks fully set.
  • Boiling water is important because it gets the noodles cooked fast enough that the egg finishes cooking at the same time, not minutes later when the noodles are already getting soggy.
03 -
  • If you're cooking multiple bowls, have all your ingredients prepped and ready before the water boils—everything happens fast once the noodles hit the water.
  • The seasoning packet is strong, so taste before you add extra soy sauce; you might not need it, and it's easier to add than to take away.
