02 - 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
03 - 2 tablespoons simple syrup
04 - 2 cups sparkling water, chilled
05 - Ice cubes
06 - Fresh black currants for garnish
07 - Fresh mint sprigs for garnish

→ Black Currant Smoothie

08 - 1 cup frozen black currants
09 - 1 ripe banana
10 - 1 cup plant-based milk
11 - 1 tablespoon honey or agave syrup
12 - 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
13 - Ice cubes, optional

→ Black Currant Infused Water

14 - 1/2 cup fresh black currants, lightly crushed
15 - 6 to 8 fresh mint leaves
16 - 1 lemon, thinly sliced
17 - 50.7 fluid ounces cold filtered water
18 - Ice cubes

# How to Make It:

01 - In a pitcher, combine black currant juice, lemon juice, and simple syrup. Stir well and add sparkling water. Fill glasses with ice, pour in the drink, and garnish with fresh black currants and mint sprigs.
02 - Place frozen black currants, banana, plant-based milk, honey or agave syrup, and vanilla extract in a blender. Blend until smooth. Add ice if desired for extra chill. Pour into glasses and serve immediately.
03 - Add lightly crushed black currants, mint leaves, and lemon slices to a large jug. Pour in cold filtered water and let infuse in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes. Serve over ice.

# Additional Tips::

01 -
  • Three distinct drinks from one ingredient means you can match your mood—sparkling and bright, creamy and grounding, or calm and refreshing.
  • Black currants pack more antioxidants than blueberries, so you're genuinely nourishing yourself while sipping something delicious.
  • These come together in minutes, making them perfect for impressing guests without spending your whole afternoon in the kitchen.
02 -
  • Don't use hot water for the infused version—it breaks down the berries too quickly and turns the drink murky and over-extracted.
  • Frozen black currants work better than fresh in the smoothie because they're already concentrated and won't water it down as they thaw.
  • If you can't find black currants, frozen raspberries or blueberries work, but they'll taste milder and you might want to use less liquid to keep the flavor bold.
03 -
  • Taste your simple syrup before adding it to the mocktail—batch-to-batch consistency varies, and you might need more or less than you expect.
  • The banana in the smoothie can be replaced with silken tofu if you want to keep it vegan and reduce the natural sugar content.
  • Black currant leaves make an excellent tea if you ever have access to the plant itself, and they pair beautifully with the berries for an even deeper flavor experience.
